Mise en scene: The artist Katy Perry is dressed in a crop
top and shorts, the choice of this costume conveys the artist as flirty and
creates a sexy feel. This is typical of the pop genre for an female artist to
be represented as a sex symbol. Furthermore the use of hair and make-up makes
the artist look innocent but still sexy through the use of plaits in her hair
this connotes innocence but the red lipstick reflects her as
proactive.
High Key lighting has been used, and very bright colors have been introduced this suggests an upbeat and positive atmosphere.
High Key lighting has been used, and very bright colors have been introduced this suggests an upbeat and positive atmosphere.
Performance:The artist is looking directly at the camera, this allows the audience to connect with the artist. Furthermore the artist posture reflects she is hiding something like she has a secret. This paints a image of a flirty female.
Design: The use of pink bubble writing stands out on the blue background of sky. The use of bright colors makes it eye catching, this is her brand identity and allows her fans to immediately recognize the artist - also the use of bright colours is very conventional of a Pop artist. The white text for the album information and release date uses san serif font this creates a light hearted tone for the advertisement as the font is not harsh. Furthermore the font is very fun and reflects what the artist is about.
The use of a garden as a background creates a light atmosphere and makes the artist seem normal like she is 'one of us' The prop of a paddling pool again reinforces innocence, youth and fun. The use of a white picket fence connotes the perfect setting/home of a sweetheart. Moreover the blue sky sets the scene as summer which reflects fun and freedom which is what the artist tries to represent her brand as. There seems to be an effect that drains out some of the colour this makes the advertisement look vintage and connotes the artist is timeless.
Camerawork: The rule of thirds have been used successfully as the artist has not been placed in the center she is aligned to the left and her body is placed in proportion to the image. Here a long shot has been used; the artist takes up most the frame as Katy Perry's feet are at the bottom of the frame and her head is almost at the top. We are quite close to the artist but not to close to loose any part of the subject. This allows the audience to see the artist in more detail; and create a connection.

Mise
en Scene - Costume:Lana Del Rey is dressed in a simple classic cream shirt the use of the light colour reflects innocence. Furthermore the choice of prestige clothing conveys the artist as a classy symbol, instead of a sex symbol which is usually used for R&B and Pop artists. In addition to this the artist is not wearing obvious makeup and looks effortlessly beautiful again this enhances her image of effortless glamour.
Design : The
use of a natural background such as a garden creates a natural earthy feeling.
The use of ambient lighting creates a powerful shot as the artist stands out to
the audience against the rural background. Furthermore the use of the skyline
creates a light hearted feel which is what the artist music is known for.
Camerawork : The use
of a mid-shot of the artist allows the audience to see the artist s in more
detail, whilst still showing enough for the audience to feel as if they were
looking at the whole subject. The shot has been created as an emotional neutral
shot as the audience can make the connection with the artist as she is staring
directly at the camera.

artist here looks free and her posture reflects a sense of power and respect.
Again using direct address allows the audience to make a connection with the
artist.

Although she is not staring directly into the camera to make direct address the audience still can make a connection as the use of a mid shot shows the artist in a lot of detail as if they were looking at her. Her arms are very relaxed like she is laying down sleeping or deep thinking this gives the impression of a sleeping beauty. As the artist is effortlessly beautiful.
Camerawork: A mid shot has been used to show the upper body of the artist in more detail whilst still showing her surroundings which we would expect is a garden/forest. The use of a mid shot is appropriate as its not to close that it would make the audience uncomfortable, as the artist looks comfortable in the space and does not need intense concentration to recognize the artist.
Florence + the Machine - Lungs
Mise en scene: Here
dark colours have been used this is very unusual for a pop artist as they are
usually presented with bright colours to connote they are upbeat. However the
artist Florence and the machine is known for being very natural, and free and
the use of earthy colours represents this. When looking at costume
the artist is wearing old fashioned clothes this vintage feel, makes the artist
seem old fashioned as she is covered up; this is unconventional as usually POP
artist dress provocatively as its very typical for females in the music
industry to become a sex symbol. The fact this has not been done reflects the
artist is all about her music and is very unique.
