Song Choice/Initial Ideas
We have chosen the song ' I wish' by artist Cher Lloyd
Furthermore it has a clear concept of jealously and love, an reflects how the audience would idolize celebrity culture as the lyrics state ' I wish'.
The lyrics relate to teenagers, this is great as our target audience is aged 16 - 18, a video of this genre which is pop has a wide appeal and is distributed to large audiences. Choosing this song gives us a platform to market our new artist and video.
This song can have a influence on teenagers, looking for a sense of identity easily influenced by their pop idol.
Initial ideas: The use of the dance studio filled with balloons, taking advantage of high key lighting and also ambient lighting. Open space where the use of powder paint is used. Purchasing a poloriod camera to take a picture of a setting then when it prints the location would be there.A bedroom shot could be implemented, where the performer would be thinking on the love interest in the video.
Locations in mind: open space, studios, bedrooms. hight street lond, london eye.
Performer: I will be the performer, the idea of the artist will be fun/ free and young with accents of rebellion. The use of pinks and blacks will be used as these contrast between girly and rebellion.

Ariana Grande - The Way
Performance: While the artist is gesturing, back up dancers are added, their movements in the video provide a visual symmetry and rhythm to accompany the music. All the subjects in the video look happy and excited creating a fun atmosphere and a look of energy. Which in turn makes the video look dynamic and non- repetitive. If the actors did not look happy the video would not look as effective as the other features would stand out and the performance would bring it down. Its integral when creating my video, that everyone puts in effort to make the video look professional.
Camerawork: The use of closeups of the artist allow the audience to connect with the artist. Midshots and and long shots were used for performance shots. A range of camera movements created were used to create a dynamic look; a feel of of energy.
Camerawork: The use of closeups of the artist allow the audience to connect with the artist. Midshots and and long shots were used for performance shots. A range of camera movements created were used to create a dynamic look; a feel of of energy.
Ideas to implement:The use of having balloons as a prop is very effective and a low budget idea; in the video the artist and dancers play with the balloons it also makes the room look fun as if it was a party. The use of projecting images on a backdrop then film it is also a very effective idea to implement.
Concept: The concept of the video is about being in love for the first time. Its typical for a pop video to have a concept rather than a narrative.
Editing: The technique of montage editing has been used in the video which is when a series of shot shots are editing into a sequence to show the passing of time. The shots are cut to the rhythmic beat; quick cuts have been used to create a sense of energy and create a dynamic feel. The use of cutaways acts as a buffer between shots that add interest to the music video.
Cut ins have been used this is when the audience is brought from a close view to a more distant one. This was used to emphasis the artist lip syncing and for the audience to make a connection with them.
Mise en scene: Bright colours are used throughout the whole video to create an upbeat and light hearted atmosphere. In the performance shots that were filmed in a studio soft light was used to emphasis the light pastel colours used in the props. The use of this lighting wraps around the subject ( artist) and produces soft shadows. There is a projection on a white wall again this was filmed in the studio this is shots of the artist lip syncing and gesturing.
When looking at the artist costume she is wearing a black fitted dress with skinny straps this looks very sleek and sexy. This is typical of a pop video as women in the music industry are usually reflected as a sex symbol. The use a pink bow in the artist hair shows her youth as bows connotes childhood. Her makeup is very minimal and not exaggerated to show to the audience she is like a 'normal teenager'. Interestingly Pop music videos attempt to relate to teenager problems such as heartache or love; this video reflects the artist is in love for the first time.
The use of balloons as a prop create a party feeling and again represents an upbeat and fun atmosphere. The use of a white backdrop creates a sense of innocence and allows the artist to stand out against it. In some shots the artist is gesturing in a bedroom set; this again is for the audience to relate to a typical teenager.

Genre Research 1
Pop music is commerical music which is often moden. The music is usually tune-ful, up tempo and repetitive. This genre is aimed at the general public and the youth market specficially. In the mood board above we have social networking sites such as twitter, facebook and instragram, this is how pop artists communicate with their fans worldwide, in the music industry its concidered a honour to have many followers on social networking sites. Furthermore pop artist are always in the tabloids wheather its bad press or good, tabloids such as ' The Sun' , 'Daily Mail' and many more. When a pop artist becomes established they begin to broaden their brand thats why there are images of perfumes and clothing as Pop artists such as Madonna has brought out her own clothing line and artists such as Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have debutted fragrances this year. As you can see in the bottom right corner we can see Katy Perry nude, this is because its typical in the music industry for a female artist tpo be sexulised and reflected a a symbol of sex. Moreover the aim of any artist is to make an income and create a brand identity. so investments are always made to make the artist more noticeable.

Mise en scene: The artist Katy Perry is dressed in a crop
top and shorts, the choice of this costume conveys the artist as flirty and
creates a sexy feel. This is typical of the pop genre for an female artist to
be represented as a sex symbol. Furthermore the use of hair and make-up makes
the artist look innocent but still sexy through the use of plaits in her hair
this connotes innocence but the red lipstick reflects her as
proactive.
High Key lighting has been used, and very bright colors have been introduced this suggests an upbeat and positive atmosphere.
High Key lighting has been used, and very bright colors have been introduced this suggests an upbeat and positive atmosphere.
Performance:The artist is looking directly at the camera, this allows the audience to connect with the artist. Furthermore the artist posture reflects she is hiding something like she has a secret. This paints a image of a flirty female.
Design: The use of pink bubble writing stands out on the blue background of sky. The use of bright colors makes it eye catching, this is her brand identity and allows her fans to immediately recognize the artist - also the use of bright colours is very conventional of a Pop artist. The white text for the album information and release date uses san serif font this creates a light hearted tone for the advertisement as the font is not harsh. Furthermore the font is very fun and reflects what the artist is about.
The use of a garden as a background creates a light atmosphere and makes the artist seem normal like she is 'one of us' The prop of a paddling pool again reinforces innocence, youth and fun. The use of a white picket fence connotes the perfect setting/home of a sweetheart. Moreover the blue sky sets the scene as summer which reflects fun and freedom which is what the artist tries to represent her brand as. There seems to be an effect that drains out some of the colour this makes the advertisement look vintage and connotes the artist is timeless.
Camerawork: The rule of thirds have been used successfully as the artist has not been placed in the center she is aligned to the left and her body is placed in proportion to the image. Here a long shot has been used; the artist takes up most the frame as Katy Perry's feet are at the bottom of the frame and her head is almost at the top. We are quite close to the artist but not to close to loose any part of the subject. This allows the audience to see the artist in more detail; and create a connection.
Lana Del Rey – Born to die
Analysis: In this advertisement, Lana Del Rey is conveying an idea of innocence and glamour.
Conventions:
1.
Artist Name
2. Title of Album
3.Image of Artist
4. Songs from Album
5. Record Company
6. Rule of thirds used
Mise
en Scene - Costume:Lana Del Rey is dressed in a simple classic cream shirt the use of the light colour reflects innocence. Furthermore the choice of prestige clothing conveys the artist as a classy symbol, instead of a sex symbol which is usually used for R&B and Pop artists. In addition to this the artist is not wearing obvious makeup and looks effortlessly beautiful again this enhances her image of effortless glamour.
Design : The
use of a natural background such as a garden creates a natural earthy feeling.
The use of ambient lighting creates a powerful shot as the artist stands out to
the audience against the rural background. Furthermore the use of the skyline
creates a light hearted feel which is what the artist music is known for.
Camerawork : The use
of a mid-shot of the artist allows the audience to see the artist s in more
detail, whilst still showing enough for the audience to feel as if they were
looking at the whole subject. The shot has been created as an emotional neutral
shot as the audience can make the connection with the artist as she is staring
directly at the camera.
Performance :The
artist here looks free and her posture reflects a sense of power and respect.
Again using direct address allows the audience to make a connection with the
artist.
Design : The
use of white text on the sky background connotes the artist is a free spirit.
The use of a blue colour for the album name and release date etc., creates a
light hearted atmosphere and again paints that image of innocence and youth.
This advert is very simple; this allows the audience to focus on just the
artist and their album.
Design: The use of white san-serif font creates a light hearted feel and the white reflects innocence and plain beauty. The use of pink flowers creates an earthy feel which connotes natural beauty which is what the artist reflects as she wears minimal makeup. The use of greenery around the edges of the poster; gives the feel the artist is outside enjoying nature at its best; like the artist
Performance: The artist eyes are closed this shows she is at peace and relaxed this reflects her music style. Although she is not staring directly into the camera to make direct address the audience still can make a connection as the use of a mid shot shows the artist in a lot of detail as if they were looking at her. Her arms are very relaxed like she is laying down sleeping or deep thinking this gives the impression of a sleeping beauty. As the artist is effortlessly beautiful.
Camerawork: A mid shot has been used to show the upper body of the artist in more detail whilst still showing her surroundings which we would expect is a garden/forest. The use of a mid shot is appropriate as its not to close that it would make the audience uncomfortable, as the artist looks comfortable in the space and does not need intense concentration to recognize the artist.
Florence + the Machine - Lungs
Mise en scene: Here
dark colours have been used this is very unusual for a pop artist as they are
usually presented with bright colours to connote they are upbeat. However the
artist Florence and the machine is known for being very natural, and free and
the use of earthy colours represents this. When looking at costume
the artist is wearing old fashioned clothes this vintage feel, makes the artist
seem old fashioned as she is covered up; this is unconventional as usually POP
artist dress provocatively as its very typical for females in the music
industry to become a sex symbol. The fact this has not been done reflects the
artist is all about her music and is very unique.
Design: The use of white san-serif font creates a light hearted feel and the white reflects innocence and plain beauty. The use of pink flowers creates an earthy feel which connotes natural beauty which is what the artist reflects as she wears minimal makeup. Low Budget Ideas 1
The Fix - Just Got Paid Analysis
Practical Tips:
The use of a dark setting with spotlights makes the video look very professional and expensivde; this was simply implemted in a drama classroom by using dark curtains to create a dark setting then placing the spotlights on the floor to create the look of a studio. This is conventional as there would usually be shots that are filmed in a studio - in this case the band is performing in these shots.
Contrasting use of high key lighting and low key lighting gave a studio feel. Again this is very easy to implement as
The use of close ups empthasis the lipsyncing and also allows the band to connect witht the audience through the use of direct adress as they look directly into the camera.
The set of a very well furnished house is what we would expect of this genre of music video.
The video has sucesfully represented a pop music also through the use of costume, as when the location changes. Such as when the boys are simply in suits this is a low budget idea as we would expect they all had suits in the first instance, moreover when they changne into plain tops in different colours is typical of a boyband to be dressed similary but still show a aspect of being unique as each band memeber has a specific image.
Performance: The band is putting in lots of effort and not performing half heardtdly this makes the video looks more professional. Furthermore the use of a dance routine, makes the band look like a unit again this is another really easy and simple idea that makes the video and the boys look like professional.
Cinematography and Editing: The use of whip pans were easily created I expect by using a figreel or just simply a hand movement this is used in most pop videos to create a dynamic feel and a sense of energy. The use of fast paced editing at some points in the video creates a sense of energy and fun which is what the video is trying to reflect; when it comes to constucting our video I like the idea of using fast paced editing as its very easy to edit the music to shots on the beat; this use of montage editing is conventional of a music video.
