At the beginning of the video the audience is introduced to cut a ways that a narrative to the lyrics; and do not meet the artist ( band) straight away this is not conventional as typically in music videos you are introduced to the artist straight away so the audience can make the connection with the artist. So upon creating our final music video I will ensure in the opening seconds the artist appears in the video.
Furthermore I need to remember a video is based a concept in the teenagers video, its about rebellion and teenage stereotypes. At some points in my music video I tried to create a narrative by choosing specific shots that almost told a story, It is integral that a music video portrays a concept in many various shots.
Moreover when editing I also lacked performance shots again these are integral to have in a music video as its conventional for the artist to perform throughout the video either dancing, playing instruments or gesturing. In this case there was footage of the artist playing instruments but I did not add enough shorts of the band performing.
I would like to highlight the aspects of the video that were successful such as adding the artists in 3 locations this is conventional. I added a range of camera movements when editing to create a dynamic look, this was specifically done when tracking was used as the camera followed the artist and extras down the school corridors. Not only was this shot perfectly framed it also reflected a lot of energy. I also added a few close ups of the artist lip syncing to draw the audience to the frame and again make that connection.
Overall the experience of creating a music video, was not only fun but helped me learn the conventions of a music video, become familiar with software such as Final cut and Photoshop. I am also comfortable using the new cameras and experimenting with features such as the focus and creating steady shots without using a tripod. The process of creating a music video is time consuming so when making my final video I will make sure I use my equipment and time to the optimum.
